[RC] [Guest] New Jersey 100 a different kind of challenge than Old D 100 - Ridecamp Guest

Mary Coleman caf @ innernet.net

Since the nearest endurance ride Memorial weekend was in
Georgia(the south is not an option for a Morgan in May)
I choose to support my local competetive organization and
go to New Jersey and attempt the 3-day 100. Hawk's done
lots of multi-day rides this should be a cake-walk right?
The weather was very favorable cloudy, rainy, highs maybe 60
what more could a Morgan rider ask for?

The 3 day rides are run 40-40-20 time allowed on the 40
mile day is around 61/2 hours no probem except that with
only a 20 minute hold and the bottomless pit horse I ride
he got just plain hungry and somewhat bored before the end
of day one. So on day two I sent a hugh bag of grain to
the hold(the Arabian riders got a laugh out of this) and
also carried grain and fed him with six miles to go. Day
three it rained even harder than the previous two luckily
we only had 20 miles. Hawk did finish
he was not tired but his rear end muscles were certainly
sore after 100 miles of riding on the flatlands.

Three days of getting up a 4 a.m. were enough for me! If
you ever want to try a different kind of challenge try
the 3-day 100s!
