[RC] re: endurance prospect - Michelle FinkHi Kathy, If you have not already, it might be worth your while to watch your prospective distance mount work on hills, in deep footing, and/or over poles. I have a 5 yr. old horse with this conformation, I bought him as a foal. He had upward fixation of the patella when he was younger (a fairly common problem with post legged horses). He has strengthened out of that, however, working him over poles does show the problem. He will occasionally stumble when the hind leg doesn't pick up correctly. He completed his first 40 mile CTR a couple of weeks ago. The sand and hills didn't bother him at all. I expect him to only get better when he has real conditioning work done (he's still doing LSD).
