[RC] Riding after Pregnancy - Patti Pankiewicz-Fuchs

Hi all! I'm just wondering if all of you endurance moms out there could give me a little pep talk and general info on riding once you have a child. Some background: I did 4 LDs over a season with my Walker cross, last one about a year ago. I have a *mostly* unbroke 5 year Arab which I plan, *hope* to be my 50 mile horse in the future. I am currently 25 weeks pregnant, and haven't ridden since I found out. (Had a previous early m/c, so Doc said no riding at all)

How long after birth till I can ride again? I'm due August 29th, I'm hoping by mid-October I'll be able to start ponying the Arab on trails, and riding her in the round pen, then by January-February start riding her on the trails, and then shooting for the Fall Far Out Forest in 2004 as our first LD.

I'm really hoping to hear some encouraging stories from moms who still manage to compete. I will be working from home, and I have my in-laws and parents to babysit anytime during the day, hubbie at night. I've got only non-endurance horsey friends locally and they've been bumming me out lately claiming, "Oh you'll give up that endurance thing, you'll be too busy, blah blah blah"

Help me out ladies!!
