[RC] [Guest] Use of Blinkers - Ridecamp Guest

Lynn DL White lwhite@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I was wondering if anybody uses blinkers on excited horses at the beginning
of races. My mare is always hard to manage and "unfocused" at ride starts.
Since Binkers seem to calm horses on the track and some of the old
equestrian books recommend them for getting a horse focused, would they work
as a focusing mechanisim for the first ten miles or so? I don't think that
they would pose a safety hazard with respect to footing, since the only
thing that is obstructed is periphreal vision. They are used on
steeplechase horses. Anybody out there ever use them? Are they legal at a
ride?
