We use trailer ties with panic snaps in our slant load. I would hope the
could jerk free if they needed to in a crash.

In our wreck last year, we had one horse loose and one
horse tied.  Granted it was not a stock trailer.  But,
the tied horse fell and broke his neck in the process
because he was tied.  The other horse had a bruise on
his hip and no other injuries.
