Re: [RC] [RC] Teeny Weeny Budget - Maureen A. Fager

Hi,
My interest in endruance also started when I was in college and was able to go to two 25 mile rides. Use what you have and you should be fine. I have never used a bridle/halter combo as I really hate them, have always used a simple western leather bridle with a thin hand tied halter under the bridle. Works great and a halter comes in handy sometimes.

Hobbling is not apporopriate at a ridecamp. When I was a kid we tried hobbling our pony as he was hard to catch, but the hobbles barely slowed him down. A hobbled horse could wander around the RC and cause lots of trouble visiting other horses and eating their food. Have also seen a horse flip and break his neck in hobbles....just not the thing for this type of venue. I've always tied to the trailer and never had a problem.
While in college I found that going for a training ride sure beat deep cleaning the bathroom when you are in "avoiding studying for finals mode"
Good luck
Maureen
