RE: [RC] Is it possible to compete on a wee small budget? - Steph Teeter

yes yes yes! You have everything you need, go for it, and have fun!

Depending upon where you live, some ride managers will give entry discounts
if you're willing to help work the ride in some way. Wouldn't hurt to ask!

You might also be able to hitch a ride with somebody who has extra room in
their trailer. Again - call the ride manager, or any other riders you know
in the area and ask.

Subject: [RC] Is it possible to compete on a wee small budget?

Hi list,

My husband and I are both full time university students. We have a very
teeny tiny budget. I was wondering if it is possible to compete on a
shoestring? I own an AWESOME horse who is very sound with a great mind,
excellent metabolism, clean legs and big feet. He's 13 and I've been
riding him for 10 years. I used to 3-Day event when I was in high school
(back when my parental units paid for everything).

I have a good eventing saddle and bridle, feed buckets, blankets, wraps,
etc. Is it possible to use this equipment to compete in? Are there any
endurance specific "must-have" items I need in addition? Also we would
need to rent a trailer. We don't own a portable corral or other similiar
fencing system. Would it work to tie to the trailer and hand-walk him
regularly to keep him from stiffening up at the competition? We recieved
all the human-camping stuff we need as wedding gifts. I hope we can do
this as I'm really looking forward to my first 25 next summer.

Thanks RC,

Tam
