More than one time at the "new rider meeting" we hold at SERA rides we 
have come across this. Electrolytes is something we talk about - usually 
with the head vet the one talking about these things and yes bicarbs are 
not reccomended for endurance horses. More than once I've given a rider 
some of mine to get them through the next day.
