OK, I am feeling like a wuss. I used to be able to ride all day in the
California sun, and do real well. But, we have just enough humidity here in
North Texas, that it has been getting to me when I ride. I think one of the
biggest problems is the heat build up under my helmet. Yes it is vented, and
yes, I have tried pouring water in the vent holes, to wet my head to help
cool down. But, it is not real effective. In the past, I tried one of those
"cool caps" that you wet, and put on under the helmet, but they did not seem
to stay cool very long. Besides strapping a big ol Igloo ice chest behind
the saddle, to dunk my head in ice every so often, anyone have anything they
have found that works well? I picked up some of those instant ice pack, that
are a one time use, that you break the seal inside, and it mixes and turns
cold. Shoot, I could carry a dozen of those in my saddle bag, and just keep
replacing them with a new one. Suggestions? And yes, I am remembering to
drink my water, looking into other electrolyte drinks besides Gatorade which
has a bunch of sugar in it, and am thinking more about what I eat when
riding in the heat. Thanks!
Jonni
