[RC] [RC] question about "knowing" horse - Maureen A. Fager

Hi Kathie,
My mare is similar, she will hold it on training rides and always waits to pee until she is turned out. She has learned to pee on longer trainging rides and endrance rides, and as others have mentioned, when I'm peeing too.

You didn't mention the lenght of time your trainig rides are-maybe just not long enoungh yet for them to feel the need to go on the trail.

I have read about mares holding throughout an entire 100 mile ride. The only way I've heard to "make" a mare pee is to put salt on the vulva. (For a good laugh, search "Salt on the twinkie" thread a couple of years ago on RC.)

Perhaps your horses just haven't gone out for a long enough time yet. And having the rider take a pit stop while holding onto the horse does help :-P

Good luck!
Maureen
