Re: [RC] Bee Stings, how long to ride? - heidi

Hi all! We suspect that Star got swarmed by Yellow Jackets Wednesday
nigth. She was covered in bumps from nose to flanks on her left side,
stomach, chest, some on her right barrel. It could have been hives, but
since it wasn't the entire horse my vet thinks it was insect bites. She
had over 200. He put her on Benedryl, and I've been bathing her with
Aveeno until this morning to take care of the itching. She seems
lethargic and sore still. How long should I give her off? I'm planning
on going for a long walk tomorrow and seeing how she feels!

Thanks,
Steph

The walking is likely a good idea, but I wouldn't plan on doing anything
very taxing until she is no longer lethargic and sore. How long it takes
to work through an allergic reaction varies a great deal from individual
to individual and from reaction to reaction. Ask your vet about possibly
giving her some Banamine to make her more comfortable as well.

Heidi
