[RC] re: itchy shedding season - oddfarm

Just a thought. I have a Morgan who had severe itching problems. He rubbed himself raw, even on his sheath. For years I sprayed, stalled, covered and bathed with no success. When he first came to us at age 7, he was practically bald on his mane and tail. I always thought it was the no see-ums.

A few years ago when he got his shots, he broke out in huge hives, I mean welts all over his body. Mostly in front, the neck and chest where the shots were given. I called my vet and he said next time, we would use a different carrier for the vaccines. What a difference that made.

Now he is seventeen, has his Morgan mane and tail back and no more itching. I think he was allergic all along to the carrier in the vaccines and his body screamed "ENOUGH!" when he broke out in the big hives. We vaccinate every 6 months.

I have no research or studies, no findings, no PHD. to verify this information.
It just made sense to me. I have two other Arabs who also seem bug sensitive and we are going to change thier vaccines and see if that helps. If it doesn't, well then that just blows my whole theory all to hell.

Talk to your vet. Good Luck!
