Julie Suhr has said, many times, that success in endurance riding is 1/3 the
horse, 1/3 the rider, and 1/3 luck.  Also that "what's up there between the
ears" is one of the most important factors......the horse's love of the game
and the will to win.

and some just pure luck too. I've seen successful endurance horses
that didn't
look like they should go 10 feet - much less 100 miles :)

I find it so hard to imagine that a horse that doesn't fit the

"proper"

conformation can be so great. Did anyone ever notice some characteristic
that he had?
