Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] Seabiscuit - SullivanThe museum in Willits, Ca has a lot of memorabilia on Seabiscuit, as he lived on the ranch (Ridgewood, I think), and is buried there. They offered to show a film, actual footage of him at the local college in Ukiah; it was so packed they turned 2/3 of the people away. I am hoping to go on tour there sometime, and I believe there is an effort to buy the ranch and keep it as a tribute to Seabiscuit. He was "over at the knee" on his left front. That wasn't spelled out in the narrative of the book, but it's apparent in photos. His right front wasn't so beautiful either. He had a stabbing motion with his left front which, of course, was his lead leg around left turns so he was on that lead a lot. (The narrative also mentioned that he was particularly good on tracks that had turns or more than one turn for the distance -- I find that interesting.) The narrative described his leg motion as an egg-beater motion. I would have to check the book again, but I believe he finally beat Man of War. As others have said, he beat a Man o' war son, War Admiral. Seabiscuit himself was a Man o' War grandson. This horse just didn't beat horses in races, he killed them by lengths...not by noses. He won by noses and lost by noses. His match race against War Admiral *was* won by lengths. I too am looking forward to the movie, but I hope I can't instantly pick out all the different horses they use like I could in "The Horse Whisperer."
