You might want to read the article in The Horse on carnivorous horses.  I
think it was last October they had an article on meat eating horses.

The current issue has a follow up on the article.  The cover has a horse
chowing down on a bucket of KFC.  Also, they mention Icelandic horses eating
frozen salted fish in the winters.

If oatmeal does that to humans, does oats do the same to horses.  Does and
of the processing make a difference, rolled crimped, cooked, whole ?

 Oatmeal has a fairly high glycemic index - meaning it causes a sugar
spike
 and subsequent drop. I used to eat oatmeal too in the AM till my crew
made
 me stop :)

 When I was at the convention listening to Susan talk about carbohydrates
 and how we don't want them to do the spike/crash scenario I remember
 thinking...too bad we can't just feed our horses some cheese and meat :)
