[RC] what is the best dog to gueard horses? - Rides 2 Far

Angie you should be ashamed of yourself
for > missing this one. The answer is obvious, you want a good hound
dog. > Preferably a Coon Hound (Blue Tick or Black and Tan)

Sorry Truman, you're wrong on this one. I *had* a bluetick English Coon
Hound. If he ever happened to be home at the time of night that a thief
struck it would have been pure luck...and he'd have met them with tail
wagging. Coon Hounds are totally non-territorial. My male stretched out
like a horse to pee. Never had an enemy, could pass through other dog's
territory and never mark anything. They let him pass cause they knew he
was just out hunting. He also wouldn't hurt critters when he cornered or
treed them. Just wanted to chase'em.

My neighbor as guineas, and there are eleven dogs on my dead end street
(4 houses). Most of them Australian Shepherds or crosses thereof. My
personal favorite way to foil thieves is to have trash laying around for
them to trip on. Cross ties, a regular obstacle course. Aussies nipping
at their heels, guieneas raising cain getting the Canada Geese stirred
up. Might even make that coon hound who is about 4 miles from home by
then stop and prick his ears. >g<
