Re: [RC] Camping on the cheap: suggestions? - Jackie Winkleman

I have to "camp" also. I have a 4 horse stock type
BP. It has a divider gate. I usually camp in the
front section. No tent. I started out with an air
mattress, but it was more trouble than I wanted, so I
finally moved up to a cot. It is more comfy anyways.
I just hang tarps or blankets, etc. on the inside to
keep out wind, cold, sun, bugs, or whatever else. I
went to the Buffalo River Trail Ride and camped for a
week in it. I did take an extra large tarp then (too
much trouble for 1 person for 1 night). I think the
measurements were 16' X 20'. I hung one side down
over the trailer to cover one side completely. I tied
the other side up high in the trees to make an awning.
I certainly didn't have the prettiest campsite, but
it was functional. Hey, I was there to ride!!!
I have a battery powered fan, a heater, and those
fold-out chairs. I think everything I have came from
good old Wal-Mart.
The Coleman stores are good too (sometimes more
expensive, but nice selection).

I carry water in a 55 gallon drum with a lid (for
myself and my horse).

I am working on getting a tarp measured and cut so I
can snap or velcro it to the trailer windows (open
spaces) so I don't have to worry about tying it (with
hay string).

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Fiunally! My trailer has arrived! I pick it up a
week from
Saturday! So I hope to make it to an LD ride or two
this year!
Now that the trailer hurdle has been conquered, next
is the
camping issue. I have *NO* camping gear, and want
to invest as
little as possible this first year (may not have
time or horse
to stay in endurance). My thoughts are to get a
truck-tent
(about $180) and an air mattress. Any suggestions/
recommendations on makes, models or sources? Also
need
something to make coffee - I can eat out of a
cooler, but I
GOTTA have coffee - any portable stove
recommendations? Or a
coffee pot that plugs into the cigarette lighter?
Any of you have any used camping equipment you'd
like to unload?

Thanks!
