[RC] Breeding issues, questions, and what if's? - Stephanie E Caldwell

This is directed at all y'all experienced breeders out there. I just got
back from a few hour ordeal at a neighbors farm with a mare and I wanted to
know some more, hoping you guys can answer my questions --

My neighbor breeds percherons, he had a young dapple grey mare attempt to
foal yesterday. Appparently the colt was too big and it got strangled by the
cord. She lost the colt, but in the process of struggling she cast herself
through the fence. Since that time she's been unable to stand and is in
extreme pain. She also retained the afterbirth. At this point their looking
at three posibilties -- she's got an infected spinal cord, she severed her
spinal cord, or she partial severed her spinal cord. Anyhow, most likely
he'll put her down tomorrow or the next day if she can't get up. Has anyone
ever heard anything like this? I'd like to breed my mare, but I came home
physically ill and scared. Is this a fluke thing, or...

Thanks,
Stephanie (ugggghhhhh... why'd I volunteer to hold her?)
Star (I got my vaccines tonight...)
