Not so true now that the computer-related businesses have pretty much
crashed!  But yes, bay area CA is very expensive. Interesting, isn't it,
that there is a major oil refinery NE of San Francisco, yet prices are so
comparatively high here.

New Mexico - 4 Corners
$1.49 for unleaded
$1.79 diesel

I lived in the SF Bay Area for many years (left in 1998).  As long ago
as that, CA had higher prices than elsewhere (at least in the Western
half of the country).  However, in SF we paid more than almost anywhere
else in CA.  In fact, the gas companies stated, when interviewed on the
news, that Bay Area people made more money than other areas and so they
could afford to pay more for gas.
