[RC] Saddle Problem - Libby & Quentin Llop

Re K Ellis's post

I once was at an Intermediate Horse trial - watching. After a gorgeous 16'2
fit TB finished her excellant go, I helped pull the saddle; every inch of
the horse was dripping sweat, except two silver dollar sized dry raised
marks just where you describe. I flipped the saddle over, a Steuben
Siegfied, & showed the rider how the stirrup bars were directly over the two
marks in question.

Saddle tree makers have a choice to either tip the bars towards the rider,
or towards the horse. Since it is the rider that buys the saddle & demands
comfort, it is the horse that suffers. I recommend you dump the saddle,
because it is not a fixable problem. I have never heard about Barnsby's
having it, but I have seen plenty of horses given verticle linear white
marks or open sores from the Steuben. If you probe with your thumbs, it is
easy the find the bars; again it is the princess & pea problem, no amount
of soft padding can cover it. The Wintec's solve this problem by designing
stirrup leathers with no buckle under the thigh, so that the bar can be
tipped away from the horse.

A second possibility is that the tree is too narrow, also indicating a need
for a saddle change. Either problem would be aggravated by more padding.
