[RC] Pasture Boarding with Cattle - Tamara Alice Taylor

Just wanted to make a quick note that if you are planning to pasture board your horse with cattle be sure you know EVERYTHING that will be fed to those animals including any free choice minerals, concentrates, hay, etc. The reason being that there are some cattle supplements, for example Rumensin, that is fatal to horses. To be on the safe side I have always ensured that NO Rumensin is even kept on the property. Also ensure that your horse will not be a bother to the cattle. I have seen cases where the horse owner was responsible for pay for the cost of the lost calf when a pastured cow slips her calf. Also be sure to check the fencing situation as fences that are considered adequate for cattle often leave something to be desired for our equine buddies.
