[RC] Free and Easy saddle report - heidi sowards

Ok, maybe you've read Ash's 25 mile ride and maybe not, but
    anyway, here's the saddle report.

June 28th I had a fall, right on my back, I carry a gun in
a fanny pack and had swung it around to my back (bad
Heidi!) and was riding about 10:50 pm with a friend when
Ash spooked at nothing (I'm sure he thought it would eat
him!) Anyway landed right on that gun, left elbow and back.
Had my helmet on, but was so stiff and sore for 2 weeks, I
didn't ride and then was worried that it would kill me to
sit in a saddle. Up to this point I LOVED that saddle!
Riding in a car or sitting at the computor was painful. Got
up the courage and went for a ride! My back didn't hurt ONE
BIT!! At our 25 mile ride he stepped out fine, we did
great, his back was not flinchy one bit the next day. One
thing that I noticed though and will have to contact my
distributor or Marlene if you're reading this, is the flaps
right behind the girth area where my legs lay have been the
only place that have rubbed. Ash didn't have any raw spots,
just swollen and tender, I'm not sure if the girth pulls
the pad material up under the saddle too much and it allows
the flap to rub or if the pad should extend down a bit
farther below the flap. The leather is stiff there also, so
a good oiling or conditioning of that area may help? I
moved the stirrup forward a notch hoping this would help,
and rode in a shorter stirrup for the first section and
longer for the second, just to move my leg a bit. The
saddle flap actually rubbed a worn spot in the fleece pad
in that area, so the flap wasn't completely or always up
against the horse. I also ride with a tighter grip as when
Ash spooks, you've got to be ready. I use a wintec girth
and it may be a bit short, I am on the second hole on both
sides and it's not the girth with the elastic on both
sides. I think this is going to be an easy fix, as opposed
to a sore back. The next day and even today, I'm not hardly
sore at all, a bit in my calves and shoulders, that's it!!
I LOVE THAT SADDLE! If there is anything to add about this
saddle, you can be sure I will!
