Good question.  My guess is that LD riders and ride managers want to consider LD
riders as "endurance" riders and therefor there MUST be "winners".

To FINISH is to win.......... BC on an LD, to me, is the "winner" if, indeed,
there HAS to be one.

Totally contrary to what I felt the original intention of LD rides are, even EN
lists riding times on LD rides.  When I was a ride manager, we gave EVERY
finisher the SAME blue ribbon which said right on it "To Finish is to Win".  We
gave a BC, but considered EVERY finisher.  Sometimes I went to back of the
packers.....
