The first running of the East Mojave Scenic Ride was a wonderful opportunity to view some of the most unique terain in the southern United States. The ride was managed by Dave and Ann Nicholson as a two day event. There was a 50 mile and 25 mile ride each day. Each ride consisted of two legs with a 1 hour lunch stop for rest and recovery.

This first year provided excellent weather conditions, with a light rain during the first two hours of the ride. Clearing skys and a brisk breeze made for cool running for both people and horses.

This area of the Mojave desert provides an extremely wide breadth of flora and fauna as well as the opportunity to view wild burros, red tail hawks and, if you're extremely lucky, the desert sand turtle. The ride was held on a combination of the Eastern Mojave National Preserve and lands managed by the US Bureau of Land Management. Both organizations were looking to this first event as a verification of the suitablity of endurance riders being part of the user community for this unique land.

As part of the southern California winter tour, the Eastern Mojave Scenic Ride should definitely be a part of your riding enjoyment.
