Opening Comments from Hal Hall

Hall and Ann Hall have a special history with endurance in Japan. They will ride in the first 100 Mile ride to be held in Japan and they honor their hosts with these special opening remarks
We want to express our gratitude for the invitation to attend and compete in Japan's first International FEI 160km CEI*** Shining Moon endurance ride. This is undoubtedly an exciting moment for the founders of the sport in your country as well as to the organizers and those who will be competing. Given our involvement over the years in assisting with Japan's progression in the sport of long distance endurance riding, we share in your excitement.

In the summer of 1996 we had the pleasure of coming to know Kunjiro Kusuyama, along with others that had traveled across the Pacific Ocean to the United States. They came to our beautiful California Sierra Nevada Mountains with a purpose, namely to:

  • View the Tevis Cup 100 Mile One Day ride.
  • Ride Arabian Endurance horses along portions of the rugged Tevis trail.
  • Obtain expert instruction about the sport of long distance riding.
The following year, we hosted other endurance-riding enthusiasts from japan who shared in Kusuyama san's vision of establishing the sport in Japan, including Takehiko Shinjo. Over the years that followed, we came to know these two fine gentelmen and gained an understanding of what they wanted to accomplish. Before their deaths, both wer instrumental in spearheading the efforts to obtain your country's Federation acceptance of this equestrian sporting activity.

Today, we are not only pleased, but also extremely honored to participate and be once agin involved in Japan's sport fo long distance riding competition. We want to express our heartfelt appreciation to Seschi and Harumi Asume for allowing us to be a part of their ainaugural event. We also offer our sincere congratulations to the Hasumi's for their successful efforts in the sport and seeing the Kusuyama and Shingo's vision come to fruition!

Add more years to your life; more life to your years! Rida a Horse! Really Ride!

Our fondest regards,

Hal and Ann Hall
