The fifth stage of the V Raid Kaliber Andalusia took the riders from Serrato outside of Ronda, to Antequera near Grenada. The stage was 65 kilometers long, and there was a veterinary contro point in Campillos.

The Basque rider Jose Antequera Gundin won the fifth stage with Sopenilla. He set the pace from the start and was followed closely by Jose Antonio Aguilar into the final kilometers. A sprint ensued and Gundin Sopenilla maintained his lead across the finish line with Aguilar finishing second. The French rider Daniel Maldera on Otello de Rivoiron held the top spot in the overall team standings.

Gundin and Sopenilla set a strong pace, reaching the veterinary control at Campillos a few minutes before the next group composed of five French riders and Spaniard Jose Antonio Anguilar. This group was an additional 30 minutes in front of the rest.

After they passed the veterinary inspection, the continued the fast pace to regroup a few miles before the finish. Gundin and Aguilar sprinted to the finish, with Gundin barely beating Aguilar across the line. A minute later in third place came Daniel French Maldera, riding Otello de Rivoiron, reinforcing his top ranking in the overall team standings.

In pairs the race pace was much more moderate. From the start Eduardo Campillos Sanchez was leading the stage with Hermes, but close to the finish engaged in a sprint with Heike Blümel on Lens Armstrong. The third place went to David Gacino on Yaum. Although he didn't medal in this stage, Eduardo Sanchez Hidalgo remained in first place with a comfortable lead of more than 1 hour in the overall standings.

14/04/10. El jinete vasco Jose Gundin gano en Antequera con SOPENILLA, despues de imprimir su ritmo desde el inicio, marchandose escapado hasta el control intermedio y despues con Jose Antonio Aguilar en los kilometros finales. En el sprint Gundin y SOPENILLA se impusieron delante de Aguilar y RAYITO, con el frances Daniel Maldera y OTELLO-DE-RIVOIRON a un minuto, manteniendo el primer puesto en la general por equipos.

La quinta etapa del V Raid Kaliber Andalucia se disputo hoy miercoles 14 de abril entre Serrato y Antequera, sobre un total de 65 kilometros y con el control veterinario intermedio en Campillos.

Camino de Campillos el jinete vasco Jose Gundin, ganador por equipos en Sanlúcar de Barrameda y montando a SOPENILLA, impuso un fuerte ritmo, llegando al control veterinario con una pequena ventaja de un par de minutos sobre un grupito de seis entre los que iban cinco franceses y el jinete local Jose Antonio Aguilar, y con todos los demas participantes a mas de media hora.

Despues del control veterinario, el grupo de cabeza se reagrupo durante unos kilometros y cuando se iba acercando la meta, se escaparon los espanoles Jose Gundin con SOPENILLA y Jose Antonio Aguilar con RAYITO, para disputar el sprint con segunda victoria de etapa para Gundin y SOPENILLA. A 1 minuto y medio llegaba, en tercera posicion, el frances Daniel Maldera, montando a OTELLO-DE-RIVOIRON, reforzando con la bonificacion su primer puesto en la clasificacion general.

En binomios el ritmo de carrera fue bastante mas moderado. Desde Campillos Eduardo Sanchez venia liderando la etapa con HERMES, pero en los últimos metros fueron adelantados al sprint por la alemana Heike Blümel con LENS-AMSTRONG-KL, mientras que el tercer puesto fue para el gallego David Gacino con YAUMA. En la clasificacion general Eduardo Sanchez Hidalgo mantiene el primer puesto con una comoda ventaja de mas de 1 hora.

Manana jueves se disputara la sexta etapa del Raid Kaliber-Andalucia entre Loja y Granada, sobre un total de 63 kilometros, con un control veterinario intermedio y un descanso en Lachar. La salida de Loja esta prevista inicialmente a partir de las 10 de la manana, y los primeros caballos llegaran a Granada a partir de las 15 horas.
