Re: leasing

Charlene - I have to say, you're talking to the wrong person when it
comes to how much to charge for a lease! Our own experience has been
that the amounts vary incredibly from horse to horse. We've leased
horses out by the incident (for a single event), for indefinite amounts
of time (a school horse), for odd amounts of time (we're leasing a horse
out now for just long enough for a second horse to grow old enough to
start under saddle!) as well as for breeding (usually a year & a half or
until the foal is weaned). We've done free leases (also referred to as
feed leases), sponsorships (where the horse stays with us but we reserve
the horse for the lessee to ride), pay by the month, pay by the lease,
etc. Each time we've negotiated a price specifically for the occasion,
so I can't help you at all here! You have to do what you feel is
comfortable and right for you.

I know there are folks on this list who lease out horses to ride on a
much more regular basis than we do, and who probably can provide you
with more specific information. Whatever you do, make sure you have a
good lease agreement! Lif
