Re: Quarter Horses

Some can do very well. Have used 3 over the years, geld.
went over 1000
miles, Stallion almost 3500 with 100% completion, another
geld. was very
good but didn't get to many rides. Now have half QH-half
Arab from same
family that is past 2500 miles, including 100s.
The short heavy "bulldogs" are not good prospects nor the
light boned
racers. The middle of the road working horses, 1000# to
1150#, 14:2--15:2
from old line ranch working horses can be great. You have
to really look
for true soundness, tho, as so many of todays QHs are not
bred to work hard.
They usually have the mind to keep on going and going,
without getting
crazy. They also are hard to beat in that last dash for the
line. If you
can find a god prospect go for it. I do think they take a
little longer to
develope the needed cooling systems because of the deeper
muscle mass, but
it will come if you work at it.
Have fun!!
