I was told that ringbone itself is not hereditary, that is, there's no
gene for ringbone.  However, the conformation of a horse's feet is
genetic (and of course can also be influenced by farriers and injury),
and *poor conformation* is what causes the ringbone.  You cannot assume
just because a horse develops ringbone that it has been because of
inherited conformation unless you have ruled out everything else that is
not genetic.  Lif
