Hey Linda, you might "still"not be remembering it right!  I thought that you had come off backward and hit and split the back of the helmet-but I was so stressed, I could be wrong!  Anyway, that lesson also taught me the necessity to learn some basic CPR (later required for my job), as I was totally clueless as far as what to do while you were unconscious.

 I was lucid enough to walk back
to camp, but I was VERY out of it, no short term memory at all, and
Karen called the medics to come get me...

[Karen Sullivan]  Again, very scary situation.  Only way out was long hike, and NOBODY on the trail that day, until the ranger drove up. I realized how ill-prepared I was for emergencies.

I got lucky that day - and not with the medic! My head injuries were
temporary, and three days later I was fine. My helmet had a dent the
size of Texas in it. I still have it; it's hard to throw out something
that saved your life... I show it to skeptics, hoping that in that way
it may save another life.

I don't say anything about people wearing them, unless they want to ride
one of my horses.
