Seriously, tho...if anyone is interested in the *actual mechanics* of what
happens to your brain on impact and it's sequelae, email me.  I have a post
in "my" archives ;-) that I wrote to another forum last year that explains
this from a medical perspective.

BTW -- "Did you have a helmet on?" was one of the first questions out of
*everybody's* mouth!

I have to laugh at this, because my 9 year-old son did his first ride to the beach at Pt. Reyes, and also led a quite brisk trot up Greenpicker,all on his new horse.  This all went great, (my kids always wear helmets on bikes OR horses), but sure wish he had one on at night.  The cargo-net slipped off the hooks in the camper-and he fell 6 feet to the camper floor! Fortunately he was okay!
