Pasture Sour (was HELP!!!)

Hi Devony,

I'm not sure how to help you...just wanted to let you know you're not alone!
My Appaloosa, Apache, is 15 years old and moderately pasture/barn/buddy
sour. I say moderately because he is controllable even when he wants to do
his own thing (my one fear is his stallionish -- gelded late -- tendencies
and wanting to fight the top male in the pasture while I'm on him). I don't
usually ride in the pasture. Most of my problems occur with him leaving the
pasture (Mom, I'm dead on my feet and you want me to TROT somewhere???) and
going back to the pasture (Really, I'm feeling much better now, let's run
FULL SPEED ahead!!!). Like I said, he's controllable, but I have to watch
him like a hawk. I can't let him get away with even stepping a front foot
around like he's going to turn towards home, or I'd probably lose control of
him (he used to be a barrel racer and can turn on a dime if HE wants to).
It's very irritating. I haven't gotten around to training him out of it.
(too many other things to train...agh, where does the time go?) I'd be
interested in any replies you get that might be helpful!
