Re: Using Carbs
Wendy, thanks for piping in. This is similar to my experience
when racing. I stopped using carbos with Kruschev when I
started asking for more speed, as it seemed that his recovery
times were consistently slower. And after I stopped using them
during 'races' his recovery times seemed more normal.
In my experience the best use of carbos is during multiday
rides, or during non-competitive 100 milers. There does seem
to be an energy boost from a 2 oz carbo drench, and the energy
level seems more consistent throughout the day with a 2 oz per
2 hour dose.
Maybe it is just a matter of protocol - finding the right dose for
your horse. I think there is a place for using carbos - it's a fast
easy source of fuel - but I'm leary about using them in race
situations at this point.
I would love to hear from others that have used carbo supplementation
during *competetive* races. Anybody else noticed lower recovery rates?
Anybody figured out an effective dosage protocol for race situations?
