ibuprophin & bute & feed

Be careful of ibuprophen, it can cause stomach problems quite easily to such an extend you can never take it again!  Happened to my roommate when she hurt her shoulder and the Dr. prescribed it.  Our society doesn't tolerate any pain these days...advertisers push the quick "fix" for any discomfort, but it all comes with a price.  I would also be concerned with ulcers in horses taking bute too, is it really worth it?  Movement and exercise, free space to romp around would do wonders for the stiff horse.  I know when I am sore I go out and work again the next day...I not only feel better but stronger!   Rest and recovery is pretty important too...quite some months back R&R was explored a bit more in depth.  The length of times being stated here seem a little short to me.  What we need are more horses so we can ride one while the other is on R&R!  <g>

Happy New Year everyone, please note my new email address!  Oat hay in No. Cal. didn't get a chance to dry out completely this year and fungus ruined alot for horses (thats what the suppliers tell me).  The grass hay won't be touched by our herd, they prefer the sweet green sugar popping up all over the place.  So oat mixed with wheat hay seems to be the choice for now, and yes, afalfa high in calcium (cow quality) so that is fed controlled to my working guy.  He loved the beet pulp I made him one day, but then wouldn't touch it after that!
Happy riding!
Kimberly (&Mystery the Morab...."hey, I have this thick coat on but wheres the snow?  Its hot!")
Pt.Reyes, CA  ....it got up to 69 the other day!
