Re: Beginner's Clinic Helpful Hints

Hi Gang!
I thought I would take the opportunity to tap into the wonderful expertise
that is available on this list (Keep up the good work, Steph! You are
doing a great service for all endurance enthusiasts).

I will be one of the presenters at an upcoming clinic for beginners here
in Ontario, and I thought I would get some input from riders from all
over, experienced or newbie! Heidi had mentioned in a recent post about
practicing these things at home to help out the vets at the ride, and I
thought it would be helpful to encourage more on this.

If you are interested in sharing, please reply to gecker@uoguelph.ca with
your thoughts as your input is sure to help new riders coming in to the
sport.

1) What good advice have you been given that helped you at the vetchecks
when presenting to the veterinary judging staff?

2) What helpful advice would you pass along to a beginner for handling a
horse at the vetchecks?

3) What do you know now that you "wished you knew then"?

4) What do you do at home to train the horse to accept the procedures of
the vetcheck?

5) Has there been any advice given to you by the ride vets that has been
helpful?

Thanks everyone for sharing your learning experiences!

Hope everyone is getting out and enjoying some of that nice weather we
"finally" had on the weekend up here!

All the best,
Gayle Ecker
