Fwd: Getting to the people with the power

Seems to me that $5 would be a more equitable fee for non-members at the LD
level. I don't pay this fee anymore :) but based upon the fee levels in other
equestrian competitions, (some of which you would never even be ABLE to
compete in without membership) $5 is a good deal all around. I think $10 is a
litle high, and certainly paying a fee to track back points for asomeone who
has not been a member should have some limits or be commesurate with the
length of time they are tracking for. Seems to me the fee would encourage
membership, rather than put people off. Never once have we felt ptu off -
rather, we felt, gee, we would rather be a member of this group than keep
paying the fee, and if it is a good enough group to COMPETE WITH, it is a GOOD
ENOUGH GROUP for us to support both with our membership and the dues.

Apples and oranges. Dues pay for the membership benefits, such as EN,
awards, tracking mileage, etc. Someone who wants to "recover" mileage
ridden before joining (prior to a six-month grace period) must pay for
it. Ride sanction fees pay for the AERC services to the ride (other
than insurance, which is paid separately but covered out of the entry
fees). As everyone at the ride is getting the *same* services, why
should some be forced to pay more than others? How is that equitable?

Beyond that is the *size* of the non-member surcharge, which becomes
quite large in proportion to the entry fee at short rides.

And why do we want to tell new people that they aren't welcome, by
saying "Hey, you're not one of us, so we're going to make you pay
extra?"

Just some reasons that I do *not* think it's right to force others to
pay more so that I can pay less.
