Can't think of ANY pro's for this treatment for a distance horse. It has some
merit for anaerobic athletes who become acidotic. Endurance horses tend to be
in both respiratory alkalosis from panting and metabolic alkalosis from losing
chlorides in sweat, and baking soda just makes the alkalosis that much worse.
