Team riding in endurance

Hi all - 

After all the discussion about the FEI selection process I got thinking about
team participation in endurance competition.  How would a team compete in
endurance?  Would you stay together (I can't imagine finding riders with
horses that would pace the same much less maintain that for 100 miles) ?
Granted I don't know anything about international anything (except food
maybe), but endurance is such an individual sport with individual dynamics I
can't figure out how a team would operate.

Please enlighten me.
