Easy boot - grip damage

I've not seen too many comments about the damage on the aft region of
the hoof wall caused by those metal grips in Easyboots. One of our
youngsters seems to get more damage than the others when using
Easyboots. We usually wrap a couple of times around with vetwrap to
alleviate the problem but it doesn't help much. 

Anyone out there got a good fix?
