Eeeekkkk! Maybe just my two cents worth (and a few pack stations), but
steel toes have no place around horses. A hoof placed just at the right
place will deem the horse handler toeless as the emergency medical folks
try to remove the "crimped on" steel. A packer-friend of mine was more
than happy to show us the results (Ewww!).

My personal favorite for boots (although not waterproof): Justin
workboots with the oil resistant sole (not leather sole), in a roper
style. I walk and ride in them all of the time, although it's very
difficult to find them for women.
