Looking for a bargain Arab?

Check your nearest land-grant university (ie, has an animal
science department). When the pyramid schemes toppled in the
late 80's, many of the farms donated their entire herds to
university. I got Cruise as a yearling from Auburn
University through a sealed bid auction for $150. I was the
only bidder, I could have gotten him for $5. A big farm from
Ocala donated their horses to Auburn. Cruise is a Princip
(Russian import) grandson and the dam line is mostly Bask.
As fancy a pedigree as any show ring Arab. The animal
science departments use them for feeding and breeding
research trials and to teach students, without really
knowing what the pedigrees mean. Auburn had a Pesniar
daughter that they sold for $500 (if I remember right,
Pesniar was bought from the Russians for $1 million cash and
two stakes winning Standardbreds). I know that Texas A&M and
Michigan had donated herds of Arabs as well at one time.

Let's see, my first trail horse (a Bask grandson) was a gift
when I was 16 (he's still going strong at 24 yrs), so I've
averaged $75 per horse.
