Re: [RC] Chair Seat - Kim

At the convention, becky Hart gave a talk about advanced training techniques including the seated or "chair" canter/gallop. She mentioned but did not name a study that was done showing this style was more efficient/effective.

When I got home on Monday, I e mailed her asking for the reference to the seated canter study that she mentioned in her presentation. I would love to read the actual mechanics and variables examined.

To date, I have not received a response. But if I do get one, I will pass this information on the sites study to this list.

I think "the chair" riding style is more of a guy thing. I looked at all the pics of the ladies, none of them ride in the exaggerated chair seat

There might be another possibility for this difference. I am not Muslim so not well versed in Islamic ritual but possibly the chair seat is a result of the prohibition against touching one's "private parts". I suspect few non-Muslim males, especially those trying to WIN races, compete without wearing protective gear, an athletic supporter and/or cup perhaps. To don these items requires a certain degree of, ah, manipulation of said private parts. To do so with bare hands is prohibited in Islam. Wearing gloves might suffice to overcome the prohibition but it would add a degree of awkwardness to the procedure.
