[RC] Ecchymosis - Bruce Weary

Hi Barbara--
Ecchymosis is a rather general term describing surface bruising and/or leakage of surface blood vessels. It can appear as a diffuse, reddish/brownish/purplish stippling or discoloration of the skin. It is a symptom in many clinical conditions, including trauma, cellulitis, vascular diseases, infections, cirrhosis, and leukemia to name a few. In this group of people, it's usually from rubbing/chafing of certain body parts that I am much to shy to mention here. Dr Q
