Re: [RC] Scratches - steelsidedown

I have no clover.... :-( ...horses and computers, never easy, lol

Actually, this year was the worst for his fungus, and we finally sprayed the
pasture with Cimmarron twice this year to kill off years of weeds. It was hard
to find a buttercup in the pasture this year.

I saw alfalfa on "the list", I'm sure he got some scraps after the broodmare
was done hers, but she's a piggy it couldn't have been much.

For 2 rat study years ago what fixed it was keeping the horses off any kind
of clover pasture and out of the bright sun during the day. The horse we
had for years only got the "fungus" scabs on feet, face, even other skin
that was not white but light, (he was a light toned palomino) when we lived
for several years on a place with lots of clover in the grass. Kept him in
the barn daytimes, no scabs. with different grass he never had a problem.
The other one came to us from a clover area, she had heavy scars on white
socks and white blaze. Never flared up on dry land pasture and hay, scars
got smalller over the years, just some rough spots on legs.

.... as the owner of the horse one of my favorite endurance vets dubbed
"fungus face" this year, I'd love to hear some remedies also. :-)

Destin + Antibotic Oint made no difference, Gold Bond helped the most but
very hard to get on the face >g< ..... I was seriously considered a
course of oral antibotics... it kept spreading, even with putting the
horse in a stall during dew hours.. :-(

However, it can call a fine Arabian mare and her offspring to pickup the
nicknames: "Scab" and "Son of Scab", much to the dismay of their owner.
