Re: [RC] re: Git R Done fees - Lori Bertolucci

I can understand fundraisers. I commend those RM that are willing to do that. I also agree with you that the RM on GRD may be a acting a bit foolish at making the ride so prohibitive, unless that was exactly why they did it?

I will readily admit, I know squat about FEI and AERC's connection with them. But what I would like to know is...does AERC contribute anything to this ride? Aside from just the sanctioning of it?

It's possible for a big fee!  Yep, unlikely that a regular AERC rider will do this particular ride.   I think this particular ride is an exception to the rule, and probably not a trend.

I have a T-Shirt that I bought that was a fundraiser for Michele Roush and Tallymark to campaign for the Worlds.  They also had bake sales and raffles at the local rides for her.  Desert Gold Multi-Day was originated as a fundraiser for them to go to UAE to compete.  So it just takes a lot more determination and grit to ride FEI than us normal AERC slackers.

The economy has been so bad that I don't think most ride managers would do something foolish like this right now to make it so cost prohibitive for just AERC riders under normal circumstances.  There's been a few ride cancellations lately due to lake or ridership.

But when they make it impossible for an AERC member to even participate, then it isn't AERC any more, it is strictly FEI.

Yep, the way I figure, if people have the money to ride such an event, more power to them.  I really think that we should be a little bit more supportive - or at least not s%%@ on those that want to ride FEI.  It would be a shame to have a poor showing at the World Equestrian Games because we don't have enough FEI rides going on to qualify quality riders and horses.  That's dumb, especially since we are hosting the Worlds next year.  I see absolutely no reason why it's a problem that it is AERC sanctioned at all....  Pretty much all the FEI riders in the US are AERC riders as well.   They gotta get their training rides in somewhere!

Probably not a misprint... Having put an fei ride on, the fees to get it sanctioned are very pricey.  There are late fees with USEF involved here as well which are pricey. A greater  number of vets are required too.  I hope they can just break even at that pricepoint. It is my understanding they are hosting this ride to help US riders get qualified for WEG!

Surely that's a misprint???  Cindy

With regard to the fees, it is obvious that they only want FEI riders
to enter as no non-FEI rider in their right mind would pay that much
to ride in Inyokern.
