[RC] renaming a horse - carolyn

Sometimes people name horses horrible names.  I have 4 examples:

A wonderful, big, bold Arab/Mustang cross named Lincoln.  We changed his name to Tatanka (we call him Tonka)
A slender, beautiful moving 16H Arab.  His name was Jimson (like the weed).  We changed it to Kashmir but his nickname is Pinky (he is a gelding, my husband hates that I call him Pinky)
I have a fabulous bay Standardbred mare.  Got her off the track.  Her registered name is Rare Rash.  I can't change this because she raced, but we call her Ash.
My husband bought an Appaloosa.  His registered name is S/B Mighty Country but they called him Mick.  Mick is not a name of horse for a cowboy.  But Slick is.

Sometimes people name horses either names that are just awful or that we don't like. So change it if you don't like it.  If you paid for the horse, you can pick the name.

I generally leave the horse's name what it is. I hate it when some one changes a horse's name when I sell it. An ego thing I guess. Would you like some one to rename you?
