[RC] ankle pain - Lynn White

I have a similar issue with the sore ankles. My pain was on the outside of my
leg making me feel like a twisted an ankle. Trotting downhill was particularly
painfull.

I did three things: I replaced the pads on my stirrups, I started riding with
a Futuro ankle brace on both ankles, and I changed riding shoes. I also got a
pair of arch supports. So far so good. I bought one of those ankle braces that
as a stiff support. This helps with lateral flexion of my ankle. If I could
get away with seeing a physical therapist and learn of some stretching
exercises, I'd try that too.

Though I agree that the weight in the stirrups probably has a lot to do with
ankle pain, I post or stand in my stirrups throughout most of a ride so that is
not an option for me. Some horses are just too rough to ride at a sitting trot
for 50 miles. I read that the Mongols ride standing up.
