Re: FW: [RC] Bakersfield, CA - wrecksduke

What are you talking about?
<<the drive off Hwy 58 was a killer, long, windy, and having to dodge cattle
the whole way.>>

Highway 58 is a nice smooth drive. I have never seen cattle on it. Its 45
minutes drive to Tehachapi and 10 or so more minutes to Bear Valley - a gaited
equestrian community with 50+ miles of maintained trails - flat and
mountainous. Come ride the two day endurance event coming up in November -
you'll get plenty of hills.

There are hills to be had within 20 minutes of downtown Bakersfield as well -
toward Hart Park and Rio Bravo ranch-type community.

Yes, because it sits at the southern end of the San Joaquin valley, it does
tend to accumulate smog in the summer.

I grew up there and its a nice place to raise a family. People are very down
to earth.

Oh goodness...flat trails bring me to tears from boredom. No thanks,
give me single track, climbing trails any day. Love them!! ~:0]

I spent about a month down in Bakersfield, met some wonderful nice
folks down there, but there is no way that I could live there. Way too
much dirty air. When riding the trails, I was bored to death...flat,
flatter and flattest. And no trees. Poor Huginn kept looking for
tress and green grass. HAHA! Yes, it was hot, but dry, so it helps.
Out in the sun it was bad, but in the shade, not so much.

We really liked the Tehachapi and Bear Valley Springs area, and
yes....even Caliente . HA! But boy...the drive off Hwy 58 was a
killer, long, windy, and having to dodge cattle the whole way.

One day we hope to live out there.
