I really don't think color makes much difference. My best ever  
performing horse was black - incredible recoveries despite being big  
bodied.

And for what it's worth - I have a dark bay that tends to overheat  
(he's big boned and fairly heavy muscled for an Arab) - when I was  
competing FEI I thought I'd see if I could help his recoveries by  
lightening his coat, so I sprayed a very very dilute bleach solution  
over his coat for a period of several weeks - it lightened to a  
beautiful gold/brown color :)  Didn't make an ounce of difference in  
his recoveries or heat tolerance, sure was pretty tho!
