Re: [RC] [Endurance Tracks] Cleveland woman begins six-monthjourney on horseback - Don Huston

Do you know if Janice is GPS'ing her ride? Does she report into a website? Can we leave messages for her?

The main complaint against grazing is the animals pull up the roots. A person with a small sickle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sickle can cut a large amount of grass and weeds in an hour or so without damaging the roots and leave the grass looking manicured.

http://tinyurl.com/Buy-Sickle and a tool to keep it sharp http://tinyurl.com/Chef-Master or http://tinyurl.com/Sickle-Sharpener I have used these types of sharpeners on my brush cutting tools and they work great.

Merri and Ridecampers,

Janice has completed 650 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail now.

She is now facing several days without support in the Sierra Nevadas.... where they say there is no grazing allowed.
(@#$% hard core environmentalists). That means she would have to pack 5-8++ days of food for her horse(s).

Also weather (lightning/thunderstorms) could potentially slow things down. Snow and ice in the mountains (10,000++ feet elevation) could also prove a challenge if not a major hindrance.

Melody (lucky to have ridden 2 days/50 hard miles of the PCT in the Angeles Crest mountains with her... gee those miles seem easy in comparison to what she now faces - lots of uncontrollable variables that could put the kibosh on things if not make them incredibly more dangerous)
